Description of an IHSA horse show
The WWU Equestrian Team competes through the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association in Zone 8, Region 4. Other schools in this
region include: Linn Benton Community College,
Oregon State University,
Seattle University,
University of Oregon,
University of Washington,
and Washington State University.
Horses for IHSA shows are donated by the local equestrian community. Each rider randomly draws a horse to compete with in
their class. Riders compete in Huntseat Equitation on the Flat, Equitation Over Fences, Western Horsemanship, and Reining.
Points are awarded as follows:
| IHSA Point System |
| Placing | Ribbon | Color | Points |
| First | Blue | | Seven (7) |
| Second | Red | | Five (5) |
| Third | Yellow | | Four (4) |
| Fourth | White | | Three (3) |
| Fifth | Pink | | Two (2) |
| Sixth | Green | | One (1) |
When a rider earns 35 points in a class, they "point up" to the next level and are then also qualified for the Regional
Competition at the end of the season.
